COUNCILLORS have hit out at paving stone 'vandals' after another incident in the area.

Cllr Bernard Dawson and Cllr Joyce Plummer, from Hyndburn Council, recently met in Spencer Street, Accrington following on from repairs undertaken in the area by Lancashire County Council Highways department.

This came after a section of the pavement had to be tarmacked after paving stones were stolen.

Along with Accrington North County Cllr Loraine Cox, they have reported numerous paving stone thefts from the footpaths in the area over the last few months.

Cllr Plummer, who represents the Peel ward, said: "Stone theft is not only damaging the character of the flagged streets but also creates dangerously uneven sections that can easy cause trips or falls.

Clr Dawson said: "This type of damage is simple vandalism and again comes at a cost to repair with budgets already strained.

"But I would urge any residents to contact your local councillors to report any such issues."
