A PUB is preparing to unveil its £70,000 facelift.

The Dog and Otter, in Cliffe Lane, Great Harwood closed its doors earlier this month to carry out the work which ‘had been on the cards for a while’.

The planned work came days after it was subject to a burglary when approximately £3,000 was stolen.

Alison Foden, licensee at the venue, said the pub has bounced back and not faced any problems since as it looks ahead to its reopening.

The 44-year-old said: “Nothing has come of it since it happened.

“We have got a new reinforced fire door with the refurbishment to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

“We’re just looking forward to the future now.”

Other changes to the pub have seen all new decor and furniture installed.

Miss Foden said: “We’re looking to make it more vibrant to attract new customers.

“It helps make us a bit more modern, it was in need of a facelift, it was looking a bit tired and old.

“People are going to see quite a substantial change.

“But we haven’t forgotten about our existing customers, they’re great.

“It’ll still be the same warm welcome, the same smiles, the same great food and drink.”

The original estimate for the work was £70,000 but the final cost has not been counted.

The biggest changes have seen the side bar, which was previously not used, removed to make a larger open space.

Work has also been done to the extension at the back to bring it into use with ‘cosy booth seating’.

Pub bosses also thanked construction staff who carried out the work for the ‘great job’ done.

The pub is marking the refurbishment with a relaunch party in aid of East Lancashire Hospice tonight.

The smart dress event will feature a fizz reception and canapes followed by an art auction, music and comedy performers.

Miss Foden said: “Lots of people who come to us have had family who have spent time with the hospice.

“Hopefully its a good way for faces old and new to come and see the pub.”
