PLANS for an outside bar and seating area at a community pub have sparked fears over noise.

Residents living close to the Butlers Arms in Pleasington Lane in Blackburn have also objected that the scheme could see the loss of part of a bowling green.

Applicant and landlord Michael Hales want to build a small bar and a seating area on outdoor decking at the back of the pub.

The extension would include a television and string lighting for drinkers and diners.

The pub was designated an ‘Asset of Community Value’ in 2016 by Blackburn with Darwen Council.

The proposal resulted in three letters of objection from residents living near the pub, including one from Livesey with Pleasington councillor John Pearson.

As a result, it will be debated by tomorrow night’s Blackburn with Darwen Borough planning committee.

Cllr Pearson called for tough controls on noise, nuisance and usage to reduce disturbance to the quiet ‘village’ atmosphere of the area.

Pleasington Parish Council expressed concern about the loss of part of the pub’s ‘much-appreciated' Crown Bowling Green and noise from the outside bar area and TV.

Planning officials have recommended councillors on the committee to approve the proposals at tomorrow night’s meeting.
