DETECTIVES are continuing to investigate an allegation a woman was sexually assaulted in Nelson.
Police said a woman, who is in her thirties, was allegedly attacked by a lone male in an area close to the town centre at around 10.40pm on Sunday.
No arrests have been made.
Detectives have identified a number of 'placed of interest' and are also making CCTV enquiries.
Today officers were searching an area on Pendle Street, near to the Morrison’s store.
That follows a search of an area of woodland next to Pendle Water, Nelson, close to Reedeyford Road, on Monday afternoon.
A police spokesman said: "Detectives are continuing to investigate a report of a sexual assault in Nelson.
"The incident is reported to have happened at around 10.40pm on Sunday when a woman in her thirties says she was approached and assaulted by a man.
"The investigation is on-going and detectives are keeping an open mind about exactly what may have happened and are working hard to get to the truth. CCTV has been analysed and an area on Pendle Street near to the Morrison’s store has been identified as of interest."
