FORMER Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams will be St Silas’ Church in Preston New Road, Blackburn, on Tuesday to support its organ appeal.

Dr. Williams, now Baron Williams of Oystermouth, talks about his life and work as a Christian minister and believer starting at 7.30pm.

He agreed to make a personal appearance to help in the fundraising drive for the £142,000 cost of repairing the church’s beautiful 1904 Harrison organ.

Jean Brindle, who wrote to him asking for help a year ago, said: “We hope that clergy and church leadership teams from all over the Diocese in Lancashire will want to come and listen to one of the key figures of recent Church of England history.”

Dr. Williams resigned as Archbishop in 2010 after 10 years to become Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge
