DOZENS of boxes of luxury chocolate were donated by the Blackburn Muslim community to a hospital.

A joint initiative between the hospital’s chaplaincy department and a local charity called Al-Imdaad foundation saw 50 wards and departments at the Royal Blackburn Hospital, Haslingden Road, to celebrate Eid-al-Adha by donating 100 boxes of Thorntons chocolates.

A generous supply of Thorntons chocolates arrived at the hospital’s Spiritual Care Centre ready for Al-Imdaad Foundation volunteers and hospital chaplains to deliver to wards and departments.

Hospital chaplain Imam Fazal Hassan said: “During Eid al-Adha, it is traditional to exchange gifts and the Al-Imdaad Foundation approached us with the idea of presenting chocolate boxes to hospital patients.

“Because not all patients would be able to enjoy chocolate, we had the idea to donate the boxes of Thornton’s Continentals to the many doctors, nurses and other hospital staff who dedicate themselves to caring for our community.”
