YOUNGSTERS of Wellfield Church school in Burnley, left lessons behind for the future back in 1993.

Following the addition of a new extension, pupils collected items for a time capsule, to be buried in new extension works.

In this picture five juniors - from left, Daniel Hall, Daniel Sproson, Claire Gant, Gemma Latham and Lynsay Payne - show off some of the articles which were to be left behind for future generations to find.

One was a scrap book, with photographs and stories of the life of the school, which was built in 1975, as new estates grew up on former farm land.

Another was a cook book and a third item was an apron, with drawings that the children had done of themselves.

After only 18 years, the primary school was becoming more overcrowded as more houses were completed on branching off from Pendle Way and work on new extensions began - one of its features was an assembly hall, complete with stage.

The foundation stone was laid by the Bishop of Blackburn, the Right Rev Alan Chesters and the chairman of the North Lancashire Methodist District, the Rev Michael Wearing.
