A VARIED programme of events will give people across East Lancashire plenty to do this weekend.

The sun is set to shine on a special memorial event in Burnley on Saturday when the Coldstream Guards will join a ceremony to honour Thomas Whitham and Hugh Colvin, who received the Victoria Cross for their actions in the First World War, in the town’s Peace Garden from 11am.

Sunday will see the family friendly ‘Party in the Park’ in Padiham’s Memorial Park from noon to 5pm.

The ‘Eid in the Park Festival’ in Corporation Park, Blackburn, runs from 11am to 6pm on both days.

On Saturday at 10.45am there will be an organ and trumpet concert to start the weekend on a hight note at St Silas Church, Blackburn.

Hyndburn Leisure Centre will host Blackburn and East Lancashire Model Railway Society’s annual exhibition from 10am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday sees a family fun day at Oswaldtwistle’s Hippings Vale Community Centre, a horticultural show at St Wulstan’s School in Great Harwood and Baxenden Allotment Society’s annual show at Hollins Technical School.

There will also be a craft market in Colne town centre.

The annual Whitworth Rushcart celebration on Sunday starts with a procession leaving North Street’s Museum at 1pm.

On both weekend days the Burnley Stage Dance Festival is at Pendle Hippodrome.

Sunday sees ‘Supercar Sunday’ at Holmes Mill, Clitheroe, and ‘Trash and Treasure’ at The Barlow, Edgworth.
