THREE special dog chipping events with health checks thrown in are planned for Pendle over the coming two months.

The first on Tuesday will be at Holt House Sports Pavilion, Harrison Drive, in Colne.

The second on Monday September 11 takes place at Waterside Youth Hub, Dam Side, Colne and the third will be on Monday October 9 at Victoria Park Pavilion, Carr Road, Nelson.

Cllr David Whipp, Pendle borough Neighbourhood Services boss, said: “We’ve teamed up with the Dogs Trust for a series of free microchipping events.

“They include a check your chip service, a basic health check including nail clipping and advice on keeping your dog healthy. Dog owners risk a £500 fine if their dogs aren’t chipped.”

Borough dog warden Laura Robinson said: “Microchipping a dog is a permanent way of identifying your pet if they get lost. A microchip is the size of a grain of rice under the dog’s skin and when a dog goes missing we can scan the microchip and get them home safely.

Winners from a ‘clean up after your pet’ poster competition at St Michael and All Angels School, Foulridge will be round the village after a spate of complaints about dog fouling. The victorious pupils were 11-year-olds Eve Blenkinsopp and Jack Nevison
