A CLEAN-UP operation is underway after a lorry reportedly shed animal remains over a road and cars in Laneshawbridge.

The incident happened in Keighley Road just after 5pm.

An eyewitness said there are three police cars at the scene directing traffic and the remains, which include intestines and a pig's head, are being cleaned up.

Resident Jackie Peden said: "There are cows' legs and pigs' heads. There are piles of intestines.

"The stench is unbelievable.

"It has dropped all over the side of my car.

"I can't go out because I keep being sick because of the smell.

"The police are here directing traffic.

"It is horrendous. I have never seen anything like it in my life."

She said it looked like the remains had come out of the truck's cabin all over the road after a car in front put its brakes on.

A police spokesman said: "It has necessitated the turn out of a specialist cleaning company who are at the scene dealing with it.

"The road is still closed in both directions."
