A TEENAGER has been arrested after a taxi driver was racially abused and assaulted in Blackburn, police said.

Cab driver Jangeer Ahmed, 50, was filmed holding off several attackers as passersby tried to intervene in Witton Park on Thursday.

Two joggers attempted to intervene during the incident.

A police spokesman said: "A teenager has been arrested by police in connection with an allegation of racially aggravated assault in Blackburn.

"Police were called around 6.45pm on Thursday (August 17) following reports of an incident close to Witton Park.

"It was alleged a taxi had been damaged with a man in his 40s then assaulted and racially abused.

"Following extensive enquiries by police a 16-year-old boy from Blackburn has today been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault and is currently in custody."
