PEOPLE intent on causing trouble at tomorrow's East Lancashire derby have been warned they will be arrested and banned from attending future games.

Police have launched a major operation ahead the League Cup clash between Blackburn Rovers and Burnley at Ewood Park.

Fans have been warned they will be filmed inside the stadium and anyone caught committing a crime will be banned from attending future matches.

Residents have been warned to expect disruption, with police temporarily closing off roads to escort coaches carrying Clarets fans to the game.

Superintendent Russ Procter said he understood some fans would be frustrated having to travel to the game on the bus but that it was the only way to stop ‘minority intent on causing trouble ruining it for the peaceful majority.

Supt Procter said: “It is important to remember very few people attending football matches actually cause problems at the games as most supporters are there as ambassadors for their club and sport.

“Nevertheless, police will act accordingly if anyone is caught behaving in an anti-social or disorderly manner.

“We will have resources available on the day to deal with any incidents of damage or unrest, while newly-installed CCTV cameras at Ewood Park will allow officers to monitor the behaviour of fans closer than ever before.

“Offenders should be warned as well as being dealt with on the day, we will also look to secure football banning orders.

“My message to fans is this – enjoy the game and don’t run the risk of losing out on supporting your club this season.”

With thousands of people expected to attend the match, fans have been told to use secure car parks and keep all valuables safe.

Supt Procter said that despite the fixture being played at 7.45pm he did not anticipate any extra alcohol-related problems. With the fixture not being televised less police resources will be needed in ‘split-loyalty’ towns such as Rishton and Great Harwood, Supt Procter said.

He added: “Extra officers will be on hand to assist supporters attending the match as well as stewards from both clubs.”
