A HYNDBURN Councillor said residents are ‘jumping the gun’ with protests against a potential new community hub in Accrington.

Hundreds of people attended a public meeting at St Joseph RC Church in Belgarth Road to fight against Accrington Stanley Community Trust opening a £2million sports hub on Highams Playing Field.

However, deputy council leader Cllr Paul Cox said people need to wait for the full plans to be revealed.

Cllr Paul Cox said at the meeting: “I feel until Accrington Stanley Community Trust come forward with plans and show us what they want to do I think we are all jumping the gun a bit.”

The meeting was chaired by Milnshaw ward Cllr Malcolm Pritchard, who set up a petition, which now has 825 signatures.

The trust said plans should be submitted in four to five weeks.
