FANS of East Lancashire rivals Blackburn and Burnley are gearing up for their anticipated cup clash this week.

On Wednesday the two sides will meet at Ewood Park in a 7.45pm kick off in the Carabao Cup.

It will be the first derby between the sides since March 2016, which the Clarets won 1-0 at Turf Moor thanks to an Andre Gray penalty.

Sean Dyche's side have won the last three games between the sides, having previously gone 35 years without a victory in the fixture.

Rovers fan James Pugh said: "The cup game is huge.

"It has been years since we have beaten Burnley and it would be nice to get the bragging rights back from them."

Blackburn supporter Sam Jones said: "When the draw was made I was excited that we would resume the rivalry and it would give our season a big game.

"Hopefully there is a big crowd to spur them on, something these games always deserve."

Fellow fan Dan Prochyra said: "This is the time to start our recovery, two towns who want to be better than the other, two sets of fans who until we meet again will not let the other forget the result on Wednesday night."

Rovers come into the game off the back of their first league win of the season, a 1-0 victory over Bradford City at Valley Parade, while Burnley suffered a 1-0 defeat to West Brom at the weekend.

Luke Ellis, 18, from Burnley, said: "It's still an important game and with 5,000 fans going we want to see a full squad.

"I'd rather see a better squad play against Blackburn than at Tottenham, we can't risk losing to Rovers, even in the cup."

Jordan Coates, 24, from Burnley, said: "Even though we're two divisions ahead of them it's still a big game, especially locally. We want to get the bragging rights, although we've already got them anyway with being in the Premier League."

Patrick Leonard, 44, from Colne said: " I think Sean Dyche will make some changes again but it should be a great atmosphere and I hope we can get the victory.

"The Premier League has to be the priority, even though it's still a big derby game."
