A BREWERY is toasting a double international awards success for its celebrated bottled beer range.

Moorhouse Brewery in Burnley has claimed accolades for its White Witch and Blond Witch drink's at the International Beer Challenge 2017.

Both beverages received a bronze medal in the ale category at the awards.

Additionally the Blond Witch also picked up bronze at the World Beer Awards 2017, which recognises different style across the globe.

Both drinks are brewed at Moorhouse's Brewery in Accrington Road and staff were delighted to receive the recognition.

Moorhouse’s head brewer Dan Casaru said: “We only entered these two beers so to get these international accolades for both is a terrific indictment to our brewing credentials.

"Golden ales are increasingly popular, so it is really rewarding to see our beers win against such fierce opposition."

The international beer challenge attracted entries from 30 countries in 69 categories.

In total more than 700 beers were entered in the competition, which is celebrating its 20th year.

Judges include retailers, importers, publicans, brewers and bloggers all headed by leading beer writer Jeff Evans.

Lee Williams, Moorhouse’s managing director, said: “Every brewer will claim to have a quality range but for me these prestigious awards are all about others from within our industry recognising that our beers really do stand out above the competition.

"Hats off to Dan and his team and the magic they’re creating in our brewhouse.”

Staff at the brewery also said the awards are expected to further boost sales for the golden ale brands.

The drinks can be found on the shelves of major supermarkets and convenience stores across East Lancashire, including Booths, Tesco, ASDA, Morrison’s, SPAR and Aldi.

Lancashire Telegraph beer columnist and East Lancashire CAMRA member Mark Briggs praised both drinks and said it is good news for the area.

He said: "The two beers are both very very good and have an excellent reputation both in the bottle and on draft.

"It's a great reward for Dan Casaru and his staff, who brew excellent beer.

"It's also great news for a local brewer and great for the profile of the ale.

"Both beers are very, very popular locally and this shows that their reputations are not just expanding regionally but internationally.

"They really do have an excellent taste."
