A STUDENT has spoken of how much support he was given after revealing he was transgender while studying for his A-levels.

Daniel Walker, from Nelson and Colne College, achieved three As in computer science, maths and further maths and will go on to study computer science at the University of York.

The 18-year-old said his biggest fear was not being accepted but his friends and staff at college were hugely supportive.

He said: “My teachers have strived to help me achieve my best and they have been very supportive.

“I always felt that I could approach them about my decision to reveal I was transgender and they did not make it an issue at all which made things easier.

“I’m very happy with my results and it means that I can study computer science at York.

“I knew I loved computer science because computing was my favourite subject at high school by far and I have continued to really enjoy it.”

He added he would recommend the college. “I have made amazing friends here and I have been able to find who I am and who I want to be in the future while being here,” he said.
