TRAFFIC was halted for 30 minutes after police searched the M65 following reports of a man on the motorway.
At least four police cars, two vans and a search dog were at the scene as traffic was at a standstill for half an hour from 6.45pm.
The closure was between junction three and four near Feniscowles.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing people getting out of their cars in an attempt to see what was going on.
One driver captured footage of the search on their dash-cam.
A police spokesman said: "We received reports of a man on the motorway.
"We went down and searched the area but found no trace of him.
"The road was then reopened."
