A BURNLEY man made international headlines after Donald Trump shared his tweet calling the president a fascist.

Mike Holden replied with ‘he’s a fascist, so not unusual’ after the US president retweeted a Fox News report about him pardoning an Arizona sheriff.

In retweet, which Mr Holden puts down to a mistake, Mr Trump retweeted the message accusing him of being a fascist before deleting it 15 minutes later.

Within 24 hours, Mr Holden, an IT consultant, had been interviewed by news organisations across the world including the Washington Post and CNN, had written a blog for the Huffington Post and gained almost 4,000 new followers.

The 53-year-old said Mr Trump has a habit of tweeting at 6.30am Washington time, about 11.30am UK time, which he refers to as 'Trump’s Toilet Tweet Time.'

He said: “After what had happened at the weekend he tweeted something that I did not think was particularly appropriate.

“I tweeted him, but did not expect him to acknowledge it. It was bizarre. I think it was a mistake.

“My twitter feed went bananas. My notifications are usually few and far between but suddenly there was an avalanche.”

Mr Holden screen-grabbed the tweet and told his new followers: “I’m announcing my retirement from Twitter. I’ll never top this RT” which was liked by more than 51,000 people and retweeted more than 13,000.

“It has been hilarious. NBC contacted The White House about it,” he said.

“The thing that struck me was it is worrying that the president of the USA can accidentally press the wrong button.”

He said the number of followers he has has gone up from around 600 to more than 4,000.

Mr Holden has also changed his Twitter handle to ‘officially endorsed by the President of the United States. I wish that were a good thing.’

He said: “The response has been really positive. It made a few people smile.

“I will have to stop swearing on Twitter as much though!”
