A BLIND charity has been awarded £10,000 of funding to help towards improving its facilities.

Accrington and District Blind Society said the National Lottery funding will be used to improve security, better lighting and replace the doors.

The group is in touch with 60 per cent more people than they were two years ago and it has increased the amount of equipment it has supplied by 90 per cent.

On average more than 600 people a month come through the doors in Bank Street.

A spokesman for the group said: "We're delighted.

"It's so rewarding seeing new people coming through the doors and being able to do something which will improve their quality of life."

The centre holds classes teaching people braille as well as offering information on eye tests.
