A CONVICTED killer who absconded from an open prison has handed himself in to police.
Anthony Curry, formerly of Dyson Street, Blackburn, left HMP Kirkham between midday and 2pm yesterday.
Police sent out a witness appeal earlier today, warning people not to approach him.
After around 24 hours on the run Curry handed himself in at Preston Police Station at 1pm today.
In July 2013 Curry was sentenced to 12 years in prison for manslaughter, burglary, arson and attempted theft.
That was after the body of retired lecturer Christopher Proctor, 88, was recovered from his fire-ravaged Blackburn bungalow which had been set alight by Curry.
Speaking at the time of sentencing at Preston Crown Court, the judge, Mr Justice MacDuff, said it was ‘difficult to imagine a more serious case of manslaughter’. He said reading the victim impact statement from Mr Proctor’s daughter had made him weep.
