PARTS of East Lancashire were hit with thunder and lightning and the Met Office has warned the bad weather is set to continue.

Residents reported seeing the skies lit up by the storm at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.

The area was also battered by heavy rain.

Lancashire Telegraph reader Paul Green, who lives in Burnley, captured dramatic dash cam footage of the storm.

The 33-year-old said: "My wife Nanda and I were heading home from Vue in Accrington, so the storm was a bit of a surprise to us.

"It was very dark and the rain was heavy, but we didn't know there was thunder and lightning.

"So to see a bolt like that right in front of us was a big surprise.

"It was followed quickly by a loud crash of crackling thunder.

"I've lived in Texas and heard loud thunder before, but not seen a bolt of lightning that bright and thick before.

"We were excited when we realised the dashcam had caught it and couldn't wait to watch it back, as in the moment it obviously happened so quick.

"It was quite exciting and we were hoping for more like it on the way home, but sadly it was just a one-off!"

The Met Office has warned there will be heavy showers between 11am and 1pm today and further wet spells tomorrow morning.

They said: "It will become more severe tomorrow night. There is some good news as the sun is set to return over the weekend."

The weather across the region caught the eye of intrepid photographers from the Camera Club members.
