THE spirit of the 1970s returned to a thronged town as cycling fans lined the streets for a series finale.

Hundreds of people filled the centre of Colne for the town's 14th Grand Prix, the culmination of the 2017 Circuit Series.

The night's final event saw world-class and top UK riders battle it out for the Colne title and to become overall series winner.

But the finale was preceded by the much-requested return of a throwback to the Seventies, with riders on six Chopper bikes doing a circuit as a prelude to the main race.

The evening's entertainment started with a youth race over 25 laps of the 840-metre circuit, which drew 54 entries.

That was followed by a Sprint for Success over 33 laps for up and coming riders, with Martin Woffindin the best local finisher among 59 entries.

The event was a big success, with big crowds around the circuit in pleasant weather and a memorable carnival atmosphere.

Organiser Len Woffindin, father of Martin, was a busy man on the night but was pleased with how the event went.
