THE current and former Mayors of Darwen Town Council have clashed over the way decisions are being made under the new regime.

In May Labour’s Cllr Brian Taylor was ousted from his position as its chair and ‘First Citizen’ by Labour and the Liberal Democrats following local elections.

He was replaced by Cllr Roy Davies, LibDem representative for Sudell.

Now Sunnyhurst’s Cllr Taylor has attacked the new regime for attempt to agree payment for the organisation of the town ‘1940’s Day’ in August by email.

He said: “The coalition of chaos that is the Tories and LibDems have had to resort, due to their ineptitude,to making decisions by email.

“This denies the chance to debate, just to vote.

“An important decision we are being asked to make is paying a commercial organisation to run Darwen Town Council events, something that previously was done by volunteers.”

Cllr Davies said: “Cllr Taylor is still bitter about being deposed as Mayor and has been as awkward as possible since.

“We need to decide this by email as there is no town council meeting this month as Labour scrapped it and if Cllr Taylor is so bothered why does he not volunteer to run it himself?”

Cllr Taylor has accused Cllr Davies and his LibDem ward colleague Cllr Paul Browne of ‘standing on the sidelines barracking instead of getting involved for the last five years’.
