A MICROWAVE caught fire at a house last night.

Fire crews were called to Basil Street in Colne at 12.10am after food in a microwave had burned and generated a lot of smoke.

A fire service spokesman said: "The 999 call reported someone may have been trapped in the fire but once the crews attended this wasn't the case.

"Although the fire was out on arrival of the crews, prior to ambulance paramedics arriving at the scene firefighters administered first aid to two casualties suffering the effects of breathing smoke."

A North West Ambulance Service spokesman said two people were taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.
