A FATHER has spoken out at the horror of finding a Blackburn Rovers CCTV camera had been pointing at his daughter’s bedroom window.

The dad, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has called for the operator to be punished after he saw the camera pointing directly into his daughter’s room while he was chatting to his neighbours in his back garden.

Club bosses told the concerned parent that an external contractor, who had used the cameras, had been suspended.

The father praised the club for their ‘swift’ action and thanked them for installing a reflective film on their child’s window to prevent people from seeing inside but allowed her to see out.

He said: “The whole situation is just madness. We were absolutely devastated as a family when we found out what had happened. I felt lost. It’s still very raw to me.

“I half expected them to say it was routine but when I found out the camera had been looking at my daughter several times, and it had been zooming in, I was devastated.”

The father described the moment he went to speak to the club’s security team and noticed the camera had turned back towards the football ground.

He said he was told by club bosses the camera had been pointed at the window on several occasions and the camera’s zoom capability had been used.

The dad said it had been a difficult situation for his family.

He said: “My daughter has been trying to hide from the camera.

“I broke down when I found her in the corner of her room saying she didn’t want want the camera to see her.

“What can I do? She doesn’t want to live here. She feels like she is being watched all the time.

“I’m not angry at the club, I don’t have any fury with them, but I have a problem with the person who did it.

“The club has been great with my family and has acted swiftly with dealing with the situation.”

A Blackburn Rovers spokesman said: “The club is aware of an incident involving the employee of an external contractor.

“The matter is currently subject to a police investigation and therefore we are unable to comment further at this time.”

Police said a 54-year-old man from Accrington was arrested on suspicion of voyeurism and has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.
