CLARETS Academy boss Jonathan Pepper believes the club can be proud of its youngsters after Burnley booked a spot in the last four of the Generali Cee Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Canadian side Prostars FC.

Danny Cadamarteri's side had beaten host Sparta Prague in their opener in the Czech Republic and a second straight win means the Clarets end the group with the maximum six points.

Burnley now face a last four clash against either Czech side Slavia Prague or Turkish side Altinordu on Monday.

Pepper said: "The lads are doing Burnley FC proud, despite being at a lot younger than the opposition."

Burnley have sent an Under-18 side to the tournament despite the competition being an under-19 one.

But the Clarets have belied the age gap with two wins, the second of which secured thanks to a Bobby Thomas header and a double from Akim Samms.

Burnley took the lead on 30 minutes when Thomas nodded home Samms' corner.

The lead lasted just 12 minutes though as Prostars hit back when Joshua Schupak curled a shot beyond Marcel Wusiewicz.

Cadamarteri's side responded quickly through and were back in front within 30 seconds.

Dylan Meredith played a superb ball into the path of Samms who guided his effort past the Prostars goalkeeper and into the net to ensure the Clarets led at the break.

It was one-way traffic after the interval as Burnley sought to make the game safe.

Oscar Woods went close to the crucial third before Samms doubled his tally to secure the semi-final spot.

Meredith and Moss combined down the right hand side and Samms was on the spot to rifle home from 12 yards to clinch the win.

The 12-man tournament also includes Everton and Leicester City and is serving as preparation for the Clarets as they step up a level from the Youth Alliance league to Category 2 status.
