TWO men seen climbing into a coach company depot in Accrington were arrested by police as they climbed out.

Blackburn magistrates heard that while they were in the compound Samuel Magee and the other man caused £1,000 worth of damage to four vehicles.

Magee, 20, of Royds Street, Accrington, pleaded guilty to being found in an enclosed yard for an illegal purpose and criminal damage to four vehicles belonging to M and M Coaches.

He was ordered to do 60 hours unpaid work and pay £500 compensation.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said Magee and another man were seen by a member of the public climbing into the yard at 7.10am.

"The officers saw them in the compound and detained them as they climbed down off the wall," said Mrs Yates.

She said a fire extinguisher had been discharged in one of the coaches and minor damage had been caused to others.

"He estimated the cost of repairs to be £1,000," said Mrs Yates.

Alexander Rostron, defending, said his client liked to go into buildings that were derelict and had previously received a warning for entering the former Accrington police station after it had been vacated.

"He needs to learn that he can't go into buildings he doesn't have permission to enter," said Mr Rostron.
