THREE apprentices are getting the chance to lay the foundation of a new career on a major development in Darwen.
Apprentice bricklayers Louis Stevens and Kai Hodgkiss have joined full time labourer Shane Khan to work on the £12million Riverside Heights.
The development will 12 new apprenticeships will be created, with training up to NVQ Levels 2/3.
Louis, 20, from Blackburn and Kai, 21, from Darwen, are learning their trade with Keith Walton Brickwork Ltd., the sub-contractor on the site.
Riverside Heights housing with care scheme for local people aged over 50 comprises 85 self-contained apartments, with a range of additional facilities including a residents’ lounge, restaurant, hair and beauty salon and secluded gardens.
The 34 adjoining two-bedroom bungalows are also for people aged 50 years and over.and will be fully completed in spring 2018.
