THOUSANDS of children have been invited to take part in a reading challenge this summer.

The Lancashire Reading Journey, now in its third year, has been organised by Lancashire County Council and will run from July 15 to September 23.

To take part children will need to visit a library and complete as many tasks as they want to over the summer.

County councillor Peter Buckley, Lancashire County Council’s cabinet member for community and cultural services, said: “This is a great way to encourage children to keep reading and learning throughout their summer holidays.

“We launched the Reading Journey a couple of years ago and each year over 7,000 children have taken part in it."
