A DRINK driver who ran off after crashing into a wall as police tried to stop him was tasered before he was arrested.

Leon Jordan Hargreaves, 33, of Preston Old Road, Feniscowles, Blackburn pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol.

He was fined £120 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge and banned from driving for three years after the court was told it was his second excess alcohol offence within a 10 year period.

Damien Pickup, defending, said his client had been startled by the presence of the police car with its blue lights on.

"He turned immediately and crashed into the wall," said Mr Pickup. "At that point he panicked and ran off. He still doesn't know why he was tasered. There was a brief chase before he stopped and held his hands up and was then tasered."
