FIVE police station front counters in East Lancashire are under threat as part of plans to slash a further £1.4million from the police budget.
The proposals, which if approved would come into force in January, are part of plans to shave £19.8million from the force's budget in line with Government cuts.
In total 10 police station front counters across Lancashire are under threat.
The ones in East Lancashire are Darwen, Clitheroe, Waterfoot, Colne and Barnoldswick.
There would also be reduced opening hours at Blackburn Greenbank, Blackburn Town Centre,Burnley, Accrington and Nelson, according to the proposals.
The Police and Crime Commissioner's office said it was in consultation with unions and was hoping to avoid compulsory redundancies.
Darwen and Rossendale MP Jake Berry said: "It is a terrible mistake to fundamentally undermine the public nature of policing by closing the two front counters in my constituency.
"While I think everyone accepts there are tough decisions to be made to balance the budge, undermining the public nature of policing is not one Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw should be taking."
