FIRE safety checks on tall buildings across East Lancashire are continuing in the wake of the Grenfell Tower disaster in which 79 are feared dead.

Blackburn with Darwen Council has conducted investigations confirming that no cladding or insulation present in the London high-rise block has been added to any similar buildings in the borough, residential or office.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We have completed safety checks on 45 of the 66 residential high rise properties in the county and no suspect cladding has been found."

A Calico Homes spokesman said: “We do not have any tower blocks, our highest are three floors, and we have never used the cladding installed at Grenfell Tower.”

A Burnley Council spokesman said: “The council doesn’t own or manage any residential building that meets the definition of a high risk building.”

Preston-based Eric Wright group is conducting a safety review of all high-rise properties it has built, including the Premier Inn and One Cathedral Square Office block in Blackburn town centre.
