BIG name summer concerts at Ewood Park could become an annual event.

Blackburn Rovers bosses delighted with the success of Saturday’s gig by Sir Elton John, are eyeing more June spectaculars.

Rob Gill, spokesman for Ewood Park, the home of Blackburn Rovers, said: “After the buzz this concert has created it would be great to see a concert here every year.

“We are exploring what’s on offer and will look to see if it fits with our schedule.”

The ground can host concerts only out of season in June for operational reasons.

The club spokesman said: “We know that there were between 14,000 and 15,000 people inside the ground. As a first concert at Ewood in more than a decade, this was fantastic.

“We will explore the possibility of increasing the capacity in future, however this must not take anything away from the fans’ experience.”

He said feedback was very positive and he hoped the concert was an added revenue stream for the club and local businesses.

“The feedback has been excellent. It was great to see so many fans inside the stadium singing, dancing and soaking up the atmosphere and professional Elton John experience.

“For us, we wanted the community to experience this concert in a feel-safe environment and we feel that this was achieved.”

Mr Gill added: “The operation went very well. When you turn up to work on a Monday morning with five huge articulated wagons in the car park, it gives you an idea of the size of the operation.

“The stage was built in just six days and then the following Monday just a few pitch panels are left, so the operation was smooth and very impressive from start to finish. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came to enjoy the concert.”

The club’s business development manager, Danny Davis, said almost a year of preparation had gone into staging the concert.

He said: “A year in the making, it was fantastic to see the local area enjoying such a legendary professional at work.

“A lot of hard work went in to make it happen and we hope that everyone in attendance had a fabulous time.”
