A 25-YEAR-OLD man has appeared before Blackburn magistrates charged with three offences of attempting to incite a 12-year-old boy to engage in sexual activity.

Andrew Richards, of Fitzgerald Drive, Darwen, is also charged with damaging toilet walls belonging to Morrisons. He was sent on bail to Preston Crown Court.

A 49-YEAR-OLD man has appeared in court accused of driving without due care and attention and failing to stop at the scene of an accident in Horden Rake, Darwen.


Blackburn magistrates adjourned the hearing involving Paul Mark Neild of Primrose Street, Darwen, until June 22.

DANIELLE Briggs, 41, of Manchester Road, Burnley, was remanded on bail by Blackburn magistrates after pleading not guilty to driving with excess alcohol.


Her case was adjourned until a later date.

A 33-YEAR-OLD man who was ejected from a Blackburn bar reacted by throwing a pint glass and smashing a window.


Dean David Devaney, of Perry Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to damaging a window belonging to Zy Bar. 


He was ordered to pay £100 compensation.


Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client was extremely apologetic. “He got into an argument with a man and was aggrieved that he was the one asked to leave,” said Mr Taylor.

A 53-YEAR-OLD woman admitted receiving more than £35,000 in benefits she was not entitled to after failing to reveal she was living as husband and wife with a man.


Blackburn magistrates heard Denise Turner made fraudulent claims for nearly five years.

Turner, of St James Close, Haslingden, was sent on bail to Burnley Crown Court to be sentenced on July 24.

A ‘DESIGNATED driver’ was found to be over the limit when he was stopped driving his friends home after a night out.


Blackburn magistrates heard Alexander Sokolowski had risked having three pints and would now have to pay the price.


Sokolowski, 21, of Heyworth Avenue, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified.

He was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £250 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.

Damien Pickup, defending, said: “He knew there was a risk.”
