A MCDONALD’S restaurant in Blackburn is the subject of concern from residents about litter.
People said they had noticed takeaway rubbish building up outside its King William Street branch in in the town centre over recent weekends.
It comes after the Lancashire Telegraph reported similar concerns about an ‘increase’ in litter on roads in Rawtenstall after the recent opening of the new McDonald’s restaurant on Haslingden Road.
One resident said they had spotted fries packets, burger wrappers and coffee cups building up outside the town centre store on Sunday evening, despite there being a bin nearby.
Shear Brow councillor Hussain Akhtar, who visited the store yesterday to have a look himself, said: “After being alerted to this, I went to visit the store myself.
“I observed that there were ice cream cartons, fries packets and tissues on the floor, but these were cleared up by a staff member when a new customer came. I will be monitoring the situation closely. “
A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “Our priority is to be a good neighbour and we remain committed to playing our part in tackling rubbish. Our restaurant teams carry out at least three litter patrols a day in and around our restaurants, picking up all rubbish, not just packaging originating from our restaurant. Large bins are located outside of our restaurants.
“We would encourage customers to inform our King William Street restaurant team of any litter spotted in the area surrounding our restaurant and we will ensure this is removed.”
