THE finest musicians from a town came together to rock the crowd as part of an annual show.

Bands on the Square 2017 has been taking place in Barnoldswick over the weekend and is set to conclude today.

Originally started in 2012, the event sees more than 30 music acts from different genres all perform in the town square.

More than 1,000 people have attended so far.

Suburban Symphony headlined the day’s music on Saturday night, while Fiery Biscuits brought the action to a close last night.

Today will feature performances from the likes of Pendle Music Academy Students and six-piece cover band Rewired, who are playing the event for the third time.

Shows will also be delivered by Paul Tierney from Clitheroe before the weekend’s music is brought to a close by Fandjango, a five-man modern jazz band from Colne.

Co-presenter of the event David Carter said: “It’s been going really, really well and it been really busy.

“It’s had a nice atmosphere and it’s been a fantastic event.

“It started when we realised there were a lot of bands in the area but that we didn’t really have anything for them.

“It’s been getting bigger and better every year and this has been a record, it’s our best year so far.

“The community spirit has just been fanatic and there’s been something for everyone.”

The event is not for profit and is organised by volunteers. Music will also be on today before the event comes to a close at 7pm.
