A CHARITY dance evening is to take place to celebrate what would have been the birthday of a ‘lovely and fantastic’ girl.

Penny Hargreaves, who had epilepsy, died in her home in Newington Avenue, Blackburn in October, and would have been 22 tomorrow.

Simitu Music will be hosting ‘A Night For Penny’ this evening at the Cellar Bar and Factory Floor in King Street to pay tribute to her.

The event will also raise money for the Epilepsy Society.

Organiser Dan Hacker, part of Simitu Music, said the young girl was a fan of the dance scene and is looking forward to the event.

He said: “We just wanted to do something in Penny’s memory.

“She was a lovely and fantastic girl and it was such a shame what happened to her.

“David Tupling, who does Simitu with me, knew her and she was a great girl.

“We discussed it with her family and they were really up for it

“She was really into that sort of music and the whole scene and culture so we thought it would be a great idea to do something.

“Then it was just about which charity we’d do it for and the Epilepsy Society is a great cause.”

On the day, there will be three stages performing with a variety of live electronic music including an outdoor stage.

In the courtyard, there will be food, circus entertainers and a variety of entertainment.

Lanterns will also be released at midnight to wish Miss Hargreaves a happy birthday.

Hannah Whittaker, who was one of her best friends and had known her since attending Bowland High School, is looking forward to the event.

The 22-year-old from Chatburn said: “Not only will we all be able to remember Penny but we’ll be able to raise money for a great cause in the Epilepsy Society.

“It will be a great way for everyone in the area and come together in her memory.”

The event features 16 DJ’s and will be headlined by X-Press, Paul Bleasedale and Simitu.

Tickets cost £10.
