MORE than 1,000 breakdowns are expected to clog Lancashire’s roads this Bank Holiday weekend.

That’s according to 24|7 Home Rescue - who have launched new roadside assistance cover to cope with a bumper number of motoring mishaps.

Experts say they expect a record number of cars on the county’s roads as people take advantage of the three-day break.

And with more vehicles on the road, motorists are being warned they could face potential disruption.

Ranjen Gohri, director of the Accrington-based breakdown company, said: “We expect many people will take advantage of the longer weekend to enjoy short breaks and day trips - putting strain on Lancashire’s road network especially during peak times.

“Saturday morning is expected to be the busiest time, followed closely by Monday afternoon as people start to head home.

“Our advice is to check your car before you travel to cut the chance of suffering a breakdown.”

Motorists are advised to check their tyres for the correct pressure and tread. It’s also advised to check the condition of your spare tyre, if you have one.

The levels of fluids such as coolant should also be checked, and topped up if necessary, and make sure you have plenty of fuel for your journey.

Drivers are also advised to make sure their phone battery is charged - in case they need to call for help - and to keep the details of their breakdown cover handy.

24|7 have just this week expanded into motoring cover - building on their existing portfolio of boiler, electrical, appliance, pest control, and plumbing plans.

Mr Gohri said: “By working with the largest breakdown recovery network in the UK, we can respond to 90 per cent of calls within 30 seconds and recover from anywhere in the UK, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

“Our aim is to get to every customer within 45 minutes.

“We think this provides really good value for money. We don’t want to leave anyone stranded.”

As well as added reassurance by the roadside, 24|7 will also offer a smartphone app which, like taxi service Uber, shows you on a map exactly where the recovery van is.

Using GPRS the app will be able to locate the customer, and a ‘call’ button will tell the recovery centre where they are. Customers can then track the van’s movements.

Mr Gohri said: “We think these little extra touches will give customers added peace of mind which will set up apart from some of other big players in the industry.”

24|7 Home Rescue breakdown cover is offering an introductory offer which includes two months free. Basic packages start from as little as £2.47 per month. For more information visit 247homerescue.co.uk
