A VARIETY of events are set to be on offer across East Lancashire over the bank holiday weekend.

Steam traction engines, vintage tractors, classic cars and motorcycles will feature at the annual Chipping Steam Fair from Saturday to Monday, between 10am and 5pm each day.

There will be a 1940s-themed weekend at East Lancashire Railway at its stations at Bury, Heywood, Ramsbottom, Irwell Vale and and Rawtenstall, all day from Saturday through to Monday.

Crowds can also get into the festival mood at Darwen Live on Sunday between 2pm and late and on Monday between 1.30pm and late, which will see performances from hundreds of musicians in the town's market square and various other venues in and around the centre.

On Sunday, between 10am and 3pm, there will be a family motoring event at the Pendle Powerfest at Nelson and Colne College, which will see around 250 vehicles on show.

While Sunday there will be a family fun day at Burnley’s Thompson Park from noon and 4pm.

Bank Holiday Monday will feature a market in Ribchester, taking place at Bee Mill between 9am and 3pm, where children can enjoy bouncy castles, face paintings and ice cream.

Great Harwood will also welcome its 150th anniversary show at The New Showfield on Monday between 8.30am and 6pm, with entertainment including a stunt monkey motorcycle display team in the main arena.

Monday will also see a family fun day at Blackburn Youth Zone between noon and 3pm.

There will also be circus workshop at Houghton Tower between 11am and 3pm on the day as well as face painting and honeybee talks at Samlesbury Hall’s The Bee and Heritage Centre between 10am and 4pm.

The Met Office has said there will be a mixture of sunshine and showers over the weekend with temperatures reaching as high as 25c on Saturday.

A spokeswoman said: “Make sure you take plenty of sun cream if you’re out.”
