A COUPLE said they felt their house ‘shake’ when a police car ‘rolled’ out of control down a Darwen street.

The car ran along Willow Street just before midnight on Monday, hitting the couple’s car and then crashing into their neighbour’s terrace home.

Their Ford car suffered scrapes along its rear bumper, while an outside pipe on their neighbours home was damaged.

Vicky and John Brown said when they heard the bang they initially thought someone was trying to break into their home.

But when they looked outside they saw a police car was next to their house.

John said: “When we saw what had happened at first we thought it was a bit comical, but then we thought about what could have happened.

“We weren’t angry, but are frustrated about having to sort out the insurance for our car.

“However the police officers were amazing and extremely apologetic and gave us all the information we needed.”

It is understood that no-one was in the police car at the time of the accident.

It is not known why the police car began to roll down the street, which is on a steep hill, or why the officers were in the road.

Vicky said: “It is amazing how it didn’t hit any of the other cars and turned slightly in the road.

“If it had happened earlier there could have been children outside playing.”

The couple added that they were glad no-one had been hurt in the incident.

A police spokesman said: “We were made aware of a vehicle that has gone into a property on Willow Street at 11.45pm.”
