POLICE are appealing for witnesses after three men were injured following an alleged assault in Blackburn.

Officers were called around 4.25am on Saturday (May 20) to Darwen Street after reports of an altercation.

Three men aged 29, 33 and 40, all from Blackburn, were found at the scene with a number of injuries.

Detectives believe the group had been attacked by two men who then made off from the scene.

A short time later, police arrested a man in Mincing Lane in connection with the incident.

A second man was arrested today (Monday, May 22) in the Blackburn area.

The 29-year-old man suffered a suspected bleed on the brain and was treated at hospital, with the 33-year-old man knocked unconscious. The third man was treated for facial injuries.

Detectives are appealing for information and are keen to speak to several people believed to be in the area at the time of incident.

Det Sgt Bryony Midgley, of Blackburn CID, said: “We are investigating a brutal and violent assault on a town centre street which has left three men injured – one seriously.

“Although we have made two arrests, we are keen to speak to a number of people who we understand saw what happened.

“We are particularly keen to identify what happened in the lead up to this incident and would urge any witnesses to come forward.

“Any information provided will be treated in the strictest confidence.”

- Sean Jarvis, 28, of Hollin Bridge Street, Blackburn, was charged with Section 18 assault, two charges of attempted Section 18 assault and affray. He appeared at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court today.

- A 22-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of affray and is currently in custody.
