TWO people were injured after a fall at Cadshaw Castle Rocks near Darwen.

Mountain rescuers had to carry a casualty down the rockface before the person, a belayer, was taken to hospital.

The air ambulance was also called.

A spokesman for Bolton Mountain Rescue said: “We were called by North West Ambulance Service to an incident at Cadshaw Castle Rocks, between Bolton and Darwen.

“A climber and belayer were injured following a leader fall.

“The belayer unfortunately came off worse.

“Three team vehicles attended, with 14 team members in total.

“Also attending was an NWAS ambulance and rapid response vehicle and the North West Air Ambulance Charity aircraft Helimed 75.

“The decision was made to transfer the casualty by land.

“After treatment by paramedics, the casualty was carried down from the rock face by team members, then loaded on board a team vehicle for a short drive to the land ambulance waiting on the A666.”
