A 'LARGE' fire broke out at a sports club last night.
Firefighters attended Blackburn Northern sports club at 6pm.
Watch manager Lee Garnett said there was a large amount of smoke and fire coming from the centre's boiler room in Pleckgate Road.
He said: "Two firefighters using breathing apparatus extinguished the boiler room fire while crews cut away the flat roof to stop the fire from spreading.
"The roof suffered extensive damage but was successfully stopped from spreading throughout the building by creating a break using power saws and axes to cut away the felt roof.
"The club was heavily smoke logged but was cleared using ventilation fans.
"Two men were playing squash inside the building and spotted smoke coming from the ceiling and called the fire service.
"Lucky the fire was found early, otherwise the whole building may have been lost.
"No one was injured and we believe the fire was caused due to an accidental electrical fault."
