A FOUR-year-old boy battling liver cancer has successfully make it through eight hours of surgery.

Charlie Procter, from Church, underwent the operation at Birmingham Children’s Hospital on Wednesday to remove tumours from his liver.

Although there were some unexpected complications, such as larger tumours and a lot of bleeding, his parents said the surgery was a success.

The youngster is now recovering and will find out the full results in about a week.

His family will now look to continue their fundraising to raise around £315,000 target to get him to America for lung surgery.

Mum Amber Schofield said on Facebook: “ We’re so proud, I’m over the moon with how brave and strong our little fighter is.”

The surgery comes just days after Charlie filmed scenes for the Jeremy Kyle Show special documenting stories of ‘inspirational children’.

As part of the show the youngster and his parents were interviewed by Mr Kyle before he was surprised with a selection of gifts from Accrington Stanley mascot Winstanley.

The date when the episode will air is to be confirmed.
