LABOUR councillor Edward Grady said he wanted to carry on his dad’s legacy after winning a council seat in Renfrew South and Gallowhill.

Councillor Grady’s dad Eddie died last year at the age of 66.

He was elected as one of the councillors for the ward back in 2007 and held a number of senior positions including depute finance convener and convener of Renfrew and Gallowhill Local Area Committee.

Councillor Grady jnr, who works at Govan High School, did stand in the by-election for the ward last year following his dad’s death but missed out, and he’s now delighted to have the chance to follow in Eddie snr’s footsteps.

He told the Gazette: “I was determined to come back and get through this year and carry on dad’s good legacy.

“I want to focus on education because that’s what I work in.

“I want to aim to get more teachers and classroom assistants but I also want to fight for what people tell me on the doorstep.

“I never assume what they want.

“I am going to do everything I promised to do including looking at the roads and rubbish collections.

“The area is not looking as good as it used to and I want to change that.”

In Renfrew South and Gallowhill, Councillor Grady was voted in alongside the SNP’s Cathy McEwan and Jim Paterson.
