A TEENAGER broke down as she was cleared of supplying the drugs which killed a 16-year-old girl.

Sky Nicol from Darwen died after taking fatal levels of ecstasy, on March 16 last year.

A jury at Preston Crown Court took almost six hours to deliver a verdict of not guilty to the single charge of supplying class A drugs after the teenager told the court Sky already had the drugs in her possession when she met her.

The 12 jury members reached a majority verdict that the teenager was not guilty.

As the defendant, who cannot be named for legal reasons, left the dock, she turned to the jury and said: “Thank you. Thank you so much,” before leaving the courtroom in tears.

Former Darwen Vale High School pupil Sky Nicol, collapsed and died from an ecstasy overdose after friends said she tipped a bag of the drug down her throat in an e-cig shop in Blackburn.

A post mortem revealed she also had cannabis, heroin and cocaine in her system.

During the trial the court heard how Sky had collapsed in the defendant’s bedroom before emergency services arrived and took her to hospital, where she later died.

Her friend called upon another teenager to help, and when that girl arrived at the house in Blackburn, she called 999 and started delivering CPR to Sky.

Following the verdict, The Honorary Recorder of Preston, Judge Mark Brown, said: “In many respects this has been a very sad, traumatic, case.

“There are no winners in a case like this.

“The outcome is terrible as far as Sky is concerned.

“It is probably a lesson to everybody of the dangers and risks of taking drugs.”

Members of Sky’s family were in the court room as the foreman delivered the verdict.

Her mum, brother and his partner, left the courtroom in distress.

The youngster who was cleared of supplying the drugs declined to comment when approached by the Lancashire Telegraph.
