TWO men had to receive treatment in hospital following a chip pan fire in a flat in Great Harwood.

Three fire crews attended the incident in a ground floor property in Clayton Street at around 3.30pm today.

A man and a women were watching TV at the time when the fire alarm went off, and a neighbour went in to help them out.

The two men were then taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital for smoke inhalation.

A fire service spokesman said: "There was quite a lot of damage to the kitchen after the chip pan fire.

"A neighbour had gone in to help the couple get out but there was a lot of smoke because it was quite a serious fire.

"The two men were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation but the woman refused treatment."
