BANDS from across Burnley and Pendle have rallied round music student Frankie Harrison-Bradley to help her complete her degree project.

Colne -born Frankie, 21, is in the final year of a music production degree at SSR in Salford.

“For my end of year dissertation I was given the task of recording and marketing a compilation album,” she said, “which was a bit of an ask.”

But undaunted Frankie set to work and on Sunday the album - Local Origins Vol I will be launched at the venue in her home town.

The album features 10 local bands and all will be playing live at the Venue at the event which starts at 2pm.

“The response I got from local musicians was amazing,” said Frankie. “I put it out on Facebook what I was hoping to go and had between 40 and 50 bands get back to me.”

Among those featured on the album are established names such as The Folkestra and Suburban Symphony.

“There is a great mix from new artists for whom this is their first release of any kind to more well known outfits,” said Frankie. “I was particularly pleased when The Folkestra agreed to do a track as they are so well established.”

The album was recorded at Hill Town Studios in Colne run by Valley Audio Productions.

“I was lucky with that as one of the engineers at the studio, Matt Arnold, was one of my tutors when I did music at Burnley College,” said Frankie. “I contacted him once I knew what I had to do and he was only too willing to help me.”

An initially run of 100 CDs has been produced and they will be available on Sunday, priced £5.

“If they sell out quickly we might get more done,” said Frankie. “Given the great response I got from the local music scene I’d like to plough any money we make from this album into further compilations. It would be nice to think we could put out an annual compilation album.

“It just shows how much talent there is out there and how many good bands there are.

As well as music production and studying the business side of the music industry, Frankie is also a performer and has played both in Manchester and around Colne as part of Frankie and Steve acoustic.

“I think we might need to do something about that name before we go much further,” she said.
