THERE is something for everyone to do this May Day Bank Holiday weekend.


Thousands of music lovers will gather in the Ribble Valley from tonight to enjoy the Jazz and Blues festival.


Saturday will be packed full of action with I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here winner Carl Fogarty will be attending a fun day at Campbells Caravans in Blackburn.


Strongman Eddie Hall will be lifting children’s trail bikes at an event at New Hey Barn in Whitewell.


Little ones will be able to get artistic at a family fun day and craft fair at Hippings Vale Community Centre in Accrington and thirsts will be quenched at the Blackburn Beer Festival with more than 60 ales available at the town’s rugby club.

Money raised will be donated to the Blackburn Youth Zone.


Sunday will see dozens of entries judged at the Worsthorne Scarecrow Festival and a bargain or two will be up for grabs at the Padiham Farmers’ and Craft Market at the town hall.


The bank holiday is traditionally celebrated with Morris dancing, with youngsters leaping around a maypole.


It originates from the pagan Anglo-Saxon customs and the Beltane festival, which is held on the same day.


It is often seen as the celebration of spring time.


A re-enactment of the First World War will take place at Hoghton Tower on Monday.


Members of the Echoes of a Gilded Age will be in period dress to show what life was like for troops in the trenches.


The Met Office predicts the weather looks largely dry with bursts of sunshine, however winds look to strengthen across East Lancashire.

A Met Office spokesman said: “In Blackburn, the threat of rain or showers will increase, with temperatures set to reach a maximum of around 12 degrees. In Rossendale it will be frosty at first on Friday but drier and brighter by day.


“It will turn less cold into the weekend, with sunshine and showers on Saturday, with some rain later on Sunday.”


Free fairground rides and more will be on offer at the Nelson Market Square during the bank holiday.


Pooches big and small will grace the grounds of Samlesbury Hall at its fun dog show.


There will be competitions such as ‘dog most like owner’ the dog with the ‘waggiest tail’ and the cutest puppy.


Those who fancy getting their fingers green can take part in a litter-picking event at the Brownhill roundabout on Saturday.


Hundreds of people are expected to attend the May Day festival at Towneley Park in Burnley, which runs throughout the weekend.
