IT is coming up to that time of the week when you start to think about eating out or having a takeaway.

So, we thought we'd identify the Lancashire outlets who sell food which require a little bit of improvement in the hygiene stakes...

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS) helps consumers choose where to shop for food by giving them information and rating the hygiene in eateries.

Ratings are given on a range of issues including:

•How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored.

•The condition of the structure of the buildings – the cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation and other facilities.

•How the business manages and records what it does to make sure food is safe.

Eateries are given scores out of five, ranging from zero, meaning urgent improvement necessary, to five, translated as 'very good'.
